The commissioning ceremony for the LESSOS–KABARNET transmission line section under the Kenya Grid Upgrade Project—132 kV LOT 1 & LOT 2, constructed by China CAMC Engineering Co Ltd (CAMCE), a subsidiary of SINOMACH, was recently held at the Kabarnet substation. Kenyan President William Ruto attended the event and delivered a speech, praising the project's strategic importance in strengthening Kenya's power grid and supporting the development in the country's western region.

The 132kV transmission project is closely aligned with Kenya Vision 2030 and represents a key component of the country's national grid expansion. President Ruto described the project as an "artery" for economic growth in western Kenya and a "lifeline" for improving local livelihoods.

The project involves the construction of five 132 kV transmission lines, including foundations for 182 towers, the erection of 359 towers, and the installation of more than 250 kilometers of transmission lines, as well as the supply of related equipment and materials.

The newly energized LESSOS-KABARNET section will significantly improve power supply stability in the region, enhance grid interconnectivity, and further optimize the structure of Kenya’s national power network.
